Thyroid/Parathyroid

The thyroid and parathyroid glands rest just below the voice box and are responsible for making hormones that regulate the body. The thyroid regulates temperature and increases the metabolic rate to use up the energy received from food.  The parathyroid controls minerals to make sure parts of the body have the nutrients they need to function. The thyroid/parathyroid team at AOC is dedicated to diagnosing and treating problems detected by an ultrasound. Patients may need thyroid or parathyroid surgery if they have hyper or hypothyroidism, have gained weight recently, or are experiencing muscle weakness. Surgery is broken down between partial removal (lobectomy) or the complete removal of the thyroid glands (total thyroidectomy).
